Garth Brooks’ Lawyers Want Sexual Assault Case Moved to Federal Court
Legendary country music performer Garth Brooks has responded to a new sexual assault claim by going to court. According to Entertainment Tonight, Brooks’ legal team has submitted a move to transfer the case from California’s Superior Court to the federal court. Tre Lovell, a legal expert, pointed out that Brooks would benefit from federal court in certain ways, including easier access to trial dates and a higher likelihood of having documents sealed. Judges in federal court are occasionally more likely to take case dismissals into consideration, Lovell added.

The accusations made by Jane Roe, a makeup artist who had worked for Brooks’ wife, singer Trisha Yearwood, are at the heart of the case, which was first filed in a California state court in early October 2024. According to Roe, Brooks abused her many times throughout 2019. She claims that because of her financial precarity, she was a “easy target,” and the attacks reportedly happened when she worked for the Brooks family.
Responding quickly to the accusations, Brooks has categorically refuted them and referred to them as a “hush money” scam. The singer’s legal team has declared the accusations to be unfounded and plans to contest the case, arguing that Brooks is innocent. If accepted, the transfer to federal court may speed up the judicial case.
